All you want to know about "Pneumothorax"

Condition Name: Pneumothorax Also called as Collapsed Lung.  How it is caused? Pneumothorax is caused when there is sudden leakage of air from the lungs to the chest cavity making the lung to collapse. In most of the cases, only one lung is collapsed.  A pneumothorax can be caused by a blunt or penetrating chest injury , certain medical procedures, or damage from an underlying lung disease which is caused by COPD(Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), Cystic Fibrosis and Pneumonia. It is also caused by Ruptured air blisters that develop on the top of the lung, bursting out sometimes allowing the air to leak from the lung to chest cavity. Often the mechanical Ventilation procedures can also lead to the collapsed lung. What are the symptoms? Sudden Chest Pain Shortness of Breath How it can be treated immediately? Hollow needle or tube can be used to remove the excess air. The hollow needle or tube is inserted between the ribs into the air-filled space ...

POPCORN LUNGS!

Disease Name:   bronchiolitis obliterans Nickname: POPCORN LUNGS What happens inside a lung?? Breath In  Breath In---> Diaphragm contracts and moves downwards---> Lung Space increases As the Lung space increases, air is sucked from the nose and then air travels down your windpipe and into your lungs. After passing through your bronchial tubes, the air finally reaches and enters the alveoli (air sacs) Through the very thin walls of the alveoli, oxygen from the air passes to the surrounding capillaries (blood vessels). A red blood cell protein called hemoglobin helps move oxygen from the air sacs to the blood. At the same time, carbon dioxide moves from the capillaries into the air sacs. The gas has traveled in the bloodstream from the right side of the heart through the pulmonary artery. Oxygen-rich blood from the lungs is carried through a network of capillaries to the pulmonary vein. This vein delivers the oxygen-rich blood to the left side of the hea...

COPD 2019 is scheduled for Oct 07-08, 2019 at Madrid, Spain !

It's time to show all your efforts and time you have put on your research and innovation. Time to show the world how brainy you are. Time to save the lives of the people. Time to tell mankind how lucky we are to have Lungs which sustains our life .  Yes , PULSUS Group gives you an opportunity to showcase your researchers and challenges you have faced during your higher education and career in the field of medical sciences.  This time PULSUS conferences are going to organize a conference on " 2nd World Congress on COPD, Asthma and Lung Health " on October 07-08, 2019 at Madrid, Spain . This is a series conference in continuation with the successful completion of the " World Congress on COPD, Asthma and Lung Health " which held on November 19-20, 2018 at  Osaka, Japan. About Eosinophilic Asthma Treatment

How is eosinophilic asthma treated? The goal of e-asthma treatment is to reduce the number of eosinophils in your airways to help you breathe easier. This may involve the use of standard asthma therapies like long-term controller and rescue medications. Controller medications, which include inhaled or oral corticosteroids, inhaled long-acting beta-agonists, and oral leukotriene modifiers, are typically taken daily to help reduce inflammation in your airways and prevent attacks. Rescue — or quick-relief — medications help alleviate symptoms during an asthma attack by relaxing tightened muscles in your airways to allow air to flow through. These may include inhaled short-acting beta agonists and oral steroids. If your symptoms are severe or not well controlled, relatively new options called biologics may help, according to the American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders (APFED). Biologics target specific cells or proteins in your body to help prevent airway inflamma...

Understand the Difference Between Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) is a chronic disease composed of multiple components, which can include asthma, emphysema and/or chronic bronchitis. To reach a diagnosis of COPD you must have two or more of these diseases as diagnosed by your pulmonary (lung) doctor. All of these are considered to be obstructive respiratory diseases. Obstructive lung diseases are categorized as such because they impair the ability of your body to breathe oxygen into the lungs and expire carbon dioxide out of the lungs. Since COPD is a combination of two or more diseases, your symptoms tend to be more severe than if you suffered from only one of the diseases. Various Stages of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD) STAGE 1 - Mild COPD STAGE 2 - Moderate COPD STAGE 3 - Severe COPD STAGE 4 - Very Severe COPD STAGE-1: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a scourge in numerous parts of the world. Most patients with COPD exhibit gentle ailment. Mild...

Researchers Breathe New Life Into COPD Research Using Mouse Models

Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) researchers have shown in mice that immune cells called basophils act to trigger a cascade of immune responses leading to airway degeneration resembling that in human chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder. The airways and lungs are affected by a range of diseases, but while some have been well characterized and treated, others such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) involve a variety of progressively deteriorating symptoms such as inflammation of the lungs and narrowing of the airways, but the causes of these at the cellular and molecular levels have largely remained obscure. Picture Courtesy:   Scienmage Department of Immune Regulation,TMDU Usage of Mouse Models : Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) have used a variety of mouse models to explain the developmental process behind COPD.  The team showed that the immune cells basophils, previously believed to be mainly involved in fighting parasitic ...

Prevalence of COPD among tricycle drivers using COPD assessment tool from GOLD classification: A cross sectional study

Abstract: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease (COPD) is the most common chronic lung disease in the world; its associated health burdens and cost are mounting. Recent evidence suggests a rapid decline in lung function occurs and may be prevented if acted upon early diagnosis. These research aims to determine the prevalence of COPD among tricycle drivers of San Fernando, La Union. This will classify the severity of COPD among newly diagnosed tricycle drivers using pulmonary function test and risk stratification using GOLD classification and discuss the clinical profile of tricycle drivers.  This is a cross-sectional study among tricycle drivers of San Fernando, La Union. The sample size was computed using Creative Research Systems Survey Software Sample Size Calculator of the Survey Systems. From 1700 population of tricycle drivers in San Fernando City, La Union, drawn a total of 175 samples with 95% confidence level. Inclusion criteria include all tricycle drivers...
